EAST COAST SWING STYLE
East Coast Swing

EAST COAST SWING (Jitterbug)

East Coast Swing (ECS) is based on the original swing style - "Lindy Hop". ECS can be taught in Single Step , Double Step or Triple Step timing. It is one of the simpliest styles of swing to learn, making it the best choice for many newcomers to begin their swing dance journey with.

In weekly group classes, we'll teach you both single and triple timing. Most of the patterns you will learn in the begiiner course are 6 count patterns.

The most popular music you'll dance to is from the 1930/40's big band era, and the early 1950/60's rock n roll era. You'll have no trouble finding bars, wedding events, swing clubs and ballroom studios that cater to east coast swing dancers.

If you are ready to dance, come join us for our weekly ongoing 5 week classes on Tuesday nights in Raleigh OR you can try our 55 minute Introductory Lesson on Sunday Nights at the Raleigh Elks Lodge, prior to our weekly swing dance. 6 pm Introductory - Beginner East Coast Swing Lesson.  MORE ABOUT SUNDAY NIGHT SWING

LINDY HOP SWING STYLE
Lindy Hop Swing

The  is an American dance which was born in the African-American communities of Harlem, New York City, in 1928 and has evolved since then.

It is considered the graddy of swing styles. Today you can find dancers across the world doing swingouts to the big band 1930/40's era, 1950's jump blues and the 1950/60's jazz era. Two styles dominate the lindy hop world - Savoy Style and Hollywood Smooth Style. Both are very similar in timing, technique and are discussed in our ongoing beginner classes. Lindy Hop is a bit more challenging then east coast swing as a beginner dancer, but don't let that discourage you. Lindy Hop is addictive.

CLASSES & WORKSHOPS: Every other month we have  weekly group classes on Tuesday nights in Raleigh and we schedule Sunday Afternoon Lindy Hop "Boot Camp Workshops" at the Raleigh Elks Lodge.

BALBOA-SWING STYLE
Balboa-Swing

BALBOA - SWING

The Balboa, also known as "Bal", is a swing dance that emerged in Southern California during the early 1930's as a response to the swing music of the time. Balboa is a dance that distinctively relies on closed position for most of its patterns, unlike lindy hop and east coast swing which move from open to closed position frequently. Balboa is danced at any tempo, but was one swing dance that enabled dancers to reach especially high speed.

CLASSES & WORKSHOPS: Several times a year we have 5 week Balboa group classes on Tuesday nights in Raleigh and often on Sunday Afternoons we have a  "Boot Camp Workshop" for Balboa at the Raleigh Elks Lodge.

WEST COAST SWING STYLE
West Coast Swing

WEST COAST SWING

West coast swing has it's roots dating back to lindy hop swing. Over the years it has evolved into a very distintive partner dance style of it's own. This swing style is probably the most challenging in the swing family because of it's emphasis on improvising on the fly. 6 and 8 count patterns are taught in our ongoing classes.

Over the pass several years, social media has brought west coast swing to the attention of millions of people around the world. The dance is constantly evolving and changing. Some of it's appeal comes from the diverse music choices a dancer can move to. Blues, R&B, hip hop, and todays Top 40.

CLASSES & WORKSHOPS: We have ongoing group classes in Raleigh and Durham each month.
